Crochet Cozy Mittens Free Pattern
Materials Needed:
5mm crochet hook
yarn needle
Caron Simply Soft Yarn (victorian rose)
scissors
PATTERN: (adult size)
* ch.10
* dc in 2nd ch from hook & each ch down the row (9)
* ch.2 & turn work, fp.dc all the way down the row (9)
* continue to for 14 rows total
* fold work in half and line up both edges, sl.st all the way down connecting the edges to create a seam (this is the cuff of your mitten)
* ch.1, hdc all the way around evenly for about 23 stitches, close with slip stitch
* ch.1, hdc in each st around, close with slip stitch and ch.1
* [bl.hdc all the way around, close with slip stitch]
* repeat [to] all the way around for a total of 7 rows
*DO NOT CLOSE THE 7th ROW*
* ch. 6 (this will make the thumb hole) … close with slip stitch in the ch.1 space from the previous row (where you would have closed round 7) & ch.1
* bl.hdc all the way around, hdc in each ch for of the thumb hole & {continue on with the bl.hdc without closing rounds} from this point on (this will eliminate any seam above the thumb)
* Repeat {to} for a total of 17 rounds
* close with slip stitch & fasten off with a long tail
* use a yarn needle to weave the long tail in and out of every other stitch around, pull tightly like a drawstring & use yarn needles to weave the tail in and out of the stitches to hide and secure
THUMB:
* re-attach yarn at seam of thumb, ch.1, hdc around the thumb hole (10sts) close with slip stitch
* ch.1, bl.hdc around, close with slip stitch
* repeat last round 7 times
* fasten off with a long tail and finish the thumb opening the same way you did the mitten opening
* use a yarn needle to hide all loose tail ends then flip the mitten the right way as it’s inside out right now
* repeat for other mitten
