So, not too long ago, I shared a post with a video that was meant to offer “free online crochet classes”. While I had the best of intentions with these classes that teach you the 4 basic stitches required to get going on your first pattern; I was given feedback by a number of new crocheters saying that they appreciate and are pleased with that lesson, however, they feel lost when it comes to reading an actual pattern. This is a very good point! Now, I (maybe I’m wrong) but I feel like it’s fair to assume that someone new to crochet is not going to be attempting a pattern that is an image/symbols as one of their first projects. I would feel they would likely go straight to the video tutorials or a written pattern. This is how I came to my decision on how I would do this first lesson on how to read a crochet pattern. Before I go further with you right now, I would like to recommend that you subscribe with your email address before leaving this page so that you receive email notification when I upload other patterns, resources as well as an upcoming “crochet-a-long” that will allow us to do a project fully together where I will provide you with a copy of a pattern and we will follow it together.
Ok, back to this condensed version on how to read a written pattern. Press play on the video below:
