free crochet pattern for moss stitch poncho
Here is another diyfromhome.com original. This moss stitch poncho is the perfect solution to layering an outfit with something simple to just throw on and stay comfy and snugly. This particular pattern is in a child size 6/7 but can be easily increased or decreased to any size you are hoping to accomplish.

materials needed:
9mm crochet hook
snuggly wuggly yarn by loops & threads (1 roll is more than enough for this size)
abbreviations used:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
sl.st = slip stitch
sc dec = single crochet decrease
dec = decrease
sts = stitches
pattern:
body:
- ch.40
- hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in next, hdc in following, sl st in the next… continue all the way down the row
- ch.1 & turn work
- in each hdc of previous row you you will do a sl st & in each sl st of previous row you will do a hdc for 28 rows
- sc dec to begin this row, continue with pattern of last 28 rows & end with sc dec
- *sc dec, continue pattern, end row with sc dec*
- reg row
- dec row
- reg row
- dec row… continue this pattern until only 1 stitch remains; close with sl st & fasten off
- re-attach yarn at top corner, ch 1, sc all the way around *cose with sl st, ch.1, sc all the way around* (181 sts)
- repeat *to* = total of 3 times around border; DON’T CLOSE LAST TIME AROUND
neck:
- continuing on to now make the neck: TIP: use st marker at start and end of next row!!
- sc dec x2, *sl st, dc, sl st, hdc* repeat *to* for 37 sts, sc dec x2, ch.1 & turn work
- sc dec x2, sl st in each hdc from previous row & hdc in each sl st from previous row, end row with sc dec x2
- repeat last row for total of 4 rows (21 sts)
- continue on with pattern (sl st, hdc) for 10 rows
- close with sl st and fasten off
***REPEAT THIS ENTIRE PATTERN AGAIN FOR BACK PIECE***
- use a yarn needle to weave in and hide all loose ends
- line up front piece to back piece (inside facing out) and attach yarn attaching front and back piece
